1. Atticus sets out from Crete
Atticus lives with his family and Melissa the donkey in a tiny little village to the east of Cydonia. The modern town of Khania has now been built on its ruins. Cydonia was one of the three big towns of Crete. Atticus and his family would have gone there for festival days and markets.
